A miscarriage is a loss – no matter the week or the circumstances.
First days
- Allow yourself every feeling: sadness, anger, relief, emptiness.
- Physical rest matters – your midwife or gynaecologist will continue to support you.
- Write or say a small farewell sentence, if that helps you.
With those close to you
- Tell a few trusted people, then ask others not to ask.
- Partners often grieve differently – this is not a question of love.
- Prepare family members for what you need right now (quiet, listening, help around the house).
Finding support
- Bereavement counselling, peer support groups, or psychotherapy.
- For lasting heaviness or dark thoughts: an emotional support helpline (in Germany, TelefonSeelsorge 0800 111 0 111); in an emergency, 112.
Your grief is real – even if others can't put it into words.
